Audio Book Review Technical Scores
Vocal Quality & Tone | • Clarity and pleasantness • Consistent tone throughout • Voice suits genre/characters | 5 | Beautifully produced by a superbe team |
Characterisation & Performance | • Distinct voices • Genuine emotion • Avoids exaggeration or stereotype | 3 | Lovely, but this is not the original text, it has been adapted for radio. and it also includes pop music so inspired by the Brigertons |
Pacing, Rhythm & Flow | • Natural pacing • Smooth phrasing • Effective pauses | 3 | This is a performance of Pride and Prejudice not the novel itself, and there are real liberties with the dialogue |
Technical Production Quality | • Clean audio • Stable volume • Professional editing | 5 | Excellent |
Engagement & Listener Experience | • Holds attention • Enhances story • Re-listen appeal | 2 | I was so distracted by the differences from the original, I could not wait to stop listening. |
Audio Book Review
This Pride and Prejudice retelling is lush, sparkling, and unapologetically dramatic.
A full radio-style performance that often feels like a Bridgerton listen-alike. The cast is superb, the production flawless, and the vocal quality utterly utterly gorgeous.
But be warned: this is not Austen’s original text.
The adapted dialogue and modern musical flourishes are ambitious diversions, some delightful, some… eyebrow-raising. I found myself torn between admiring the creativity and whispering, “Somewhere, Jane Austen is turning in her grave.”
Still, if you enjoy Regency-but-make-it-pop vibes, it’s a fun, high-gloss diversion...
Just don’t expect strict literary fidelity.
